Behaviour Monitoring
The Save Driver Care kit (SDC) registers real data via telematics. Combined with a unique software, providing dashboards with driver behaviour results, it offers the possibility to measure, steer and impact continuously the behaviour of every individual driver. As the focus is on driving behaviour, the reporting of specific events is not required. The SDC is not a track & trace system and therefore compliant with privacy regulations.
The SDC measures the following elements:
- Distance travelled in urban, non-urban and highway zones
- Speed in the different zones
- Curves
- Acceleration and de-acceleration
- Weighted optimal fuel consumption taking into account distances travelled in the different zones
The software provides online dashboard reporting of the individual driving behaviour results, to be consulted by the driver. A consolidated reporting is additionally available for the fleet manager.
It is furthermore a unique way to analyse your driver population and install proper and efficient improvement programs, e.g. driver training, where needed. Results of communication, awareness, training and other initiatives can immediately be evaluated on its merits through the reporting in our dashboards.
What for?
Recent studies from “the Belgian Institute for Traffic Safety” state that:
- Company car drivers regularly drive too fast and take more risks
- They are 50% more likely to be involved in an accident compared to other drivers
- Time pressure is the main reason, but the fact that the “omnium” (own risk) insurance will cover the costs anyway reinforces this attitude
It is generally known that company car drivers impact substantially the Total Cost of Usage, the safety and the eco-footprint of their car. By improving Driving Behaviour, the safety level, CO2 emissions and savings will be optimized over time. This improvement will be realized through more involvement and an increased sense of responsibility towards an eco-friendly and safer driving behaviour.
Impact on environment, safety and savings?
- Lower fuel consumption reduces correspondingly the CO2 emission.
- Impact of speed on safety:
- A collision at 120km/h corresponds to a fall of the 19th floor
- Improved driver behaviour with respect to speed, turnings, acceleration, braking,... leads to less accidents or less severe accidents.
- A better driving behaviour reduces fuel consumption:
- Driving fluently will result in a 20% fuel consumption savings compared to driving aggressively, with extreme speeding up and braking.
- Driving at 130km/h consumes about 1 liter/100km extra compared to driving at 120km/h
- Braking unnecessarily is one of the important causes of fuel overconsumption
Additional information
- It’s all about behaviour, not about specific events nor knowing where a driver is on a specific moment. The monitoring allows for continuous reporting of driving behaviour and steering of the drivers. It identifies drivers in need for eco- or safety driving courses.
- The aim is to combine safety and eco footprint improvement, realizing substantial savings. Through those savings long term downgrading of company cars can be avoided.
- The Save Driver Care kit and software have the following characteristics:
- Respecting fully the legal requirements concerning privacy
- Invisibly installed out of sight in the car
- no interference with the technical applications of the car
- Reporting time frame is minimum 1 week and the figures are averages
- 5 weeks and 20 weeks trend lines are reported, in such a way the at progress can be measured medium and long term.
Advantages for your company
- Fleet managers locally and internationally are convinced that telematics, driver management and more efficient reporting are the key success factors for future improvements in fleet management” (Fleet Europe Forum – Amsterdam 2009).
- The SDC approach respects the basic philosophy “Measuring is knowing”.
It allows to analyze and evaluate individually;
- the “as is” situation,
- the improvement areas
- the necessary corrective initiatives and actions
- the impact and results of those initiatives and actions
Unique features of the SDC:
- The SDC does not report any tracing & tracking data. We measure behaviour and do not report individual events, nor exact places (only urban, non-urban and high-way zones, but not the location in these zones) or timings (no day/night work/private time measuring).
- The reporting is developed for the specific needs of fleets, including perk fleets.
- The scores given in the reporting and the qualification of inappropriate behaviour is, can be tailored to the culture of the company.
